Artist Statement
My work explores psychological states resulting from structural societal practices and norms, particularly forms of oppression.
My paintings often allude to a sense of discomfort or unease but are intentionally indistinct and ambiguous so that there is enough room for the viewer to bring their own interpretation to the work.
I work quickly in a loose expressive style using oil, acrylic, ink and watercolour.
Hi Fiona,
Looking at your work and reading your statement, I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the communication of your ideas and working practice, together with looking at your powerful imagery. I appreciated reading about your element of risk-taking with ink, accepting possible chance encounters and working with the medium.
I also very much enjoyed the Marlene Dumas exhibition last year. So much so that I bought the catalogue in order to hold onto what she wrote about her intriguing thoughts and working process.
Looking forward to, hopefully, another catch up at the next artists’ lunch.
Best wishes,
Jillian
